You Light up my Life - Lamps & Lighting

I am loving my little shabby chic lampshade I made

To make it, I Googled vintage images and used images from The Graphics Fairy  and printed my own fabric using the method in the tutorial here...

I layed my plain lampshade down on paper to trace the shapes I would need to make my pattern. I used a method very similar to the tutorial for the lampshade re-do at Creations From my Heart, except I used a fabric glue instead of the hot glue mentioned in the tutorial.

Then I finished it off with trim, fabric roses, buttons and some raised printed fabric butterflies attached to the butterflies on the fabric of the lampshade to make them look like they are fluttering off the shade.

I love this silhouette lamp made by Chica and Jo and their tutorial for how to make one yourself. The magic appears when the light is turned on!

I also had to share this amazing idea for upcycling a vintage light fixture for the garden by adding solar lights to an old chandelier. Found on Flea Market Gardening, scroll down until you find the project made by Ann Elias

"I got this light for $5.00..painted it black…replaced the bulbs with solar lights…and then I was going to hang it from a shepherds hook..but then I noticed it would slide right into a piece of conduit…so I painted that black also. Inserted that into the ground. Instant light with no wiring!"

How to make Vintage French Postcard Pillows

I love these sweet little postcard pillows. Unfortunately the original link is gone but they could easily be made by printing a vintage postcard on fabric and a little simple sewing and stuffing and you could easily make them yourself.
You can either Google "Vintage French Postcard" images or find some great images from The Graphics Fairy like the ones here...

The Graphics Fairy also has a great tutorial on how to print directly onto fabric using freezer paper, I've used this method many times and I love it!

Once you have your vintage postcard printed on fabric to whatever size your little heart desires, you can coffee or tea stain your fabric if you wish. Girl in Pink has a great tutorial for coffee or tea staining fabric, (be cautious to watch for any color bleeding from your printed image).

Then simply sew up the sides, stuff it and enjoy your own homemade vintage creation!

I just wanted to share a similar idea originally found in Victoria Magazine, these are sweet lavender filled "postcard" sachets. One side has room to write a message. Unfortunately the link is no longer available but sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words.
